Ella Ross, LCSW

Psychotherapist

  • Ella provides compassionate and evidence-based therapy for individuals of all ages suffering from eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. Ella knows that eating disorders are often lonely and isolating experiences, and it is very important to her that clients regain the sense of community that comes from enjoying food with friends, colleagues, and family. Deeply familiar with both the painful psychosocial implications of eating disorders and the often grave physical consequences, Ella is committed to holistic therapeutic practices that address all aspects of the illness.

Ella enjoys working with people of all identities and personally belongs to the LGBTQ+ community. Ella’s extensive experience with a diverse clientele has sensitized her to a wide cross-section of perspectives and has shaped her humanistic and personalized approach to meeting clients’ recovery needs. Ella’s practice includes support for caregivers, parents, partners, and children whose loved ones are in treatment because an eating disorder impacts not only the individual at the center but also those around them.

Influenced by the principles of Positive Psychology, Ella brings an optimistic outlook to her practice. She believes that every client has strengths, positive experiences, positive traits, and positive social networks of some kind to build on and develop. Sharing humor, laughter, and joy is always welcome and therapeutic. Ella loves playing with her beloved dog, Baker, as well as spending time with her wife, friends, and family.

She has helped hundreds of individuals to build a more positive relationship to food and eating and to come to terms with “fear foods.” While at the table with a client, Ella provides in-the-moment feedback on behavior use and recommends alternative coping skills. She is gentle, yet firm. In Ella’s work at McLean Hospital, Walden Behavioral Care, and Monte Nido, she has provided crisis intervention, led skills-focused groups, and provided snack and meal support for both adolescents and adults in treatment for eating disorders.

Ella’s therapy sessions are guided by her training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Importantly, Ella is a proponent of Health at Every Size (HAES), which is a framework for care that de-emphasizes body size as the ultimate indicator of health and aims to counter societal weight biases and stigmas.
